On July 1, 1867, the new country of Canada was created by the confederation of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and what is today Quebec and Ontario. The eastern provinces were enticed into the deal by the guarantee of a railroad link to the central provinces. Four years later, the promise of a transcontinental railroad brought British Columbia, on the west coast, into confederation as well. The Canadian Pacific Railway Company was created to fulfill those promises, and in 1885 the last spike was driven at Craigellachie, B.C., binding together the second-largest nation on earth. Today 14,000 miles of CPR track extend from Montreal to Vancouver and deep into the U.S., through the CPR's ownership of what once was the Milwaukee Road, the Soo Line, and the Delaware & Hudson Railway. RailKing Scale engines are full O scale models that are 1/48 the size of the real locomotive. Other RailKing engines, such as our 2-8-0 and Bantam steam locomotives, have somewhat scaled-down proportions because a full-scale model would not negotiate the tight curves found on most toy train layouts.
